Rentals
WCHR owns and manages 112 rental units in thirteen separate properties within the city of Worcester. These include family apartments, a special needs home, and sober single-room lodging homes. We also manage 26 affordable apartments for other entities.
WCHR has been able to partner with State and Federal agencies to provide subsidy financing and rental assistance for many units, enabling families and individuals to live in high-quality, well-managed homes at a rent they can afford. Consequently, they are better able to provide for their family and individual needs, while living in a safe and clean environment.

Conversation with a WCHR Tenant
Lagrange Street, July 2025
How long have you lived on Lagrange Street?
As of 2025, I’ve lived in the same apartment for 11 years.
What are your favorite spots in the neighborhood?
My daughter and I love going to the YMCA to swim! We also love our Dunkin donuts. We make sure we get our coffee every day. Rain, sleet, snow, or shine! We also love Maria's Kitchen (a Spanish restaurant that sells Spanish dishes right on Main Street)!
Do you have many neighbor friends?
My neighbors are great! We definitely look out for one another, and they don't bring any drama. There's one neighbor that would give you everything she had if you needed it. She also loves to cook for my daughter and is always bringing toys to my fur baby dog, Lola!
Are there any community events that you enjoy?
Every August we go to the back-to-school event behind the YMCA, where you can get school supplies. There are so many vendors and different things you can learn about! You also get to meet some great people!

Assisted Living
Heywood Wakefield Commons is the only assisted living facility of its kind, providing 100% affordable assisted living for seniors lacking the resources needed in many such communities.
Over a 10-year development timeline, the project combined the best features and funding from many resources, including a pilot grant from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development and assistance from the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development.
Heywood Wakefield Commons is located in a beautifully converted former factory building in Gardner, Massachusetts, combining quiet, old-fashioned charm with the latest innovations in assisted living.
