A group's plan to transform a hotel on Oriol Drive into permanent housing for the homeless is drawing some concern from neighboring residents, who say the area is already awash in social services.

Worcester Community Housing Resources — a nonprofit that aims to create and provide affordable housing in Worcester County — is planning to convert the Quality Inn & Suites near Lincoln Plaza into permanent supportive housing for the city’s homeless population.

Worcester Hotel May Be Converted Into Homeless Housing

WORCESTER, MA — Amid a rising homelessness crisis in the city, a local nonprofit has presented plans to turn a Worcester hotel into permanent supportive housing for homeless residents.

Worcester Community Housing Resources has asked for approval from the Planning Board to convert the Oriol Drive Quality Inn into 90 units of multifamily housing, according to documents. On Wednesday, the groups behind the conversion hosted a meeting for interested residents and local elected officials.

Worcester Community Housing Resources, a community development corporation, is proposing to convert a Quality Inn and Suites at 50 Oriol Drive into 90 units of permanent supportive housing for those in need.

WCHR would partner with Eliot Community Human Services of Lexington to provide wraparound services for residents including clinical services, behavioral health, and recovery coaching.

A local nonprofit is looking to help ease Worcester’s housing crisis by converting a hotel into 90 units of permanent supportive housing for homeless residents.

Worcester Community Housing Resources Inc. has developed a plan to purchase and rehabilitate the Quality Inn & Hotel Suites on Oriol Drive in Worcester, according to Executive Director Jennifer Schanck-Bolwell.

More Robust Worcester Affordable Housing Rule Goes To City Council

WORCESTER, MA — A proposed new zoning law in Worcester that would increase the number of affordable rentals got a boost from the Planning Board on Wednesday.

Worcester officials have been crafting the inclusionary zoning ordinance since the spring. The zoning law would require that developers set aside a share of units in new buildings as affordable for people and families earning less than the local median income.
